The HMC681LP5(E) from Hittite is a digitally controlled variable gain amplifier (VGA) which operates from DC to 1 GHz, and can be programmed to provide anywhere from 13,5 dB to 45 dB of gain, in 0,5 dB steps. The device delivers a noise figure of 2,8 dB in its maximum gain state, with output IP3 of up to +36 dBm in any state. This serially controlled digital VGA incorporates off-chip AC ground capacitors for near-DC operation, making it suitable for a wide variety of RF and IF applications. It operates from a single +5 V supply and is housed in an RoHS compliant 5 x 5 mm QFN leadless package. Typical applications include cellular/3G infrastructure, WiBro, WiMAX, microwave radio and VSAT, as well as test equipment and sensors. The module’s functionality is also available with parallel control in the form of the HMC626LP5(E).
