IP68 quick-lock connectors

4 March 2009 Interconnection

IMS Connector Systems has released a new complete range of IP68 watertight SnapN jacks. The spectrum ranges from straight and right-angle connectors for individual cable variations to a diverse range of jacks for panel mounting.

An advantage of the IP68 design in accordance with the IEC 529 standard is that while fully waterproof in the mated state between plug and jack, IMS also guarantees that both plug and jack are watertight in the unmated state. And the possibility of water penetration due to a defective cable is ruled out thanks to the axial seal of the IP68 locking system.

The SnapN range consists of quick-lock connectors which are all backward compatible with N connectors. This means that SnapN jacks (female) can be plugged into standard N connectors (male). SnapN connectors are suitable for all applications up to 11 GHz, with a guaranteed minimum of 200 mating cycles. Their quick-lock mechanism requires no tools and mounting is straightforward, even if access is restricted.

As the engagement force of SnapN is lower than that of standard N connectors, the mating process is said to be significantly faster. SnapN cable mount angle plugs are also rotatable around 360°, providing flexibility in cable positioning.
