Quatech has released a new product line of USB wired and wireless device servers.
Equipped with the latest generation of technology, these device servers are a cost efficient way to connect a wide variety of USB peripherals to members over an 802.11b/g wireless network or a wired local area network (LAN).
With robust support compatibility, the USB wireless 802.11b/g device server allows users to share and connect up to 15 USB devices at once from anywhere on their wireless LAN. Advancing beyond the typical wireless printing device server, the USBN-500W can connect to and share virtually any USB device, allowing users to network-enable cameras, scanners, printers, USB storage devices and more.
The wireless module comes equipped with isochronous data transfer support, allowing USB devices that stream audio and video to be shared among multiple Windows and Mac users over a wireless or wired Ethernet network. To simplify the user experience, the device server is equipped with a Virtual Link utility which allows individuals to manage all of their networked USB devices in one window on a realtime basis. The USBN-500W also has simplified configuration with the support of Microsoft Windows ‘Connect Now’ to create a wireless configuration in minutes.
Offering options the wireless device server does not provide, the wired variant comes with a network attached storage (NAS) option, which supplies file-based storage to the device server. With the NAS option, the device allows USB devices to be used and shared over LAN or wide area network (WAN).
The wired module’s Virtual USB-IP software contains a virtual bus enumerator driver and virtual bus driver, which enable virtualisation of USB devices attached on the USB server. The virtual bus driver takes the USB traffic from the USB client drivers on Windows host and exposes it to the USB server, which sits remotely on the network.
The wired device server’s administration utility provides two functionalities in the form of the Server Manager and Device Mapping. The Server Manager enables the administrator to configure the USB server on the network and has the option to search for the USB server on the network and change the server configuration setting. The Device Mapping enables virtualisation of all USB devices connected to the USB server board on a PC over LAN.
