1,5 A step-down converter

Expanding on its integrated SWIFT family of DC-DC converters, Texas Instruments has introduced a new 65 V input, 1,5 A output step-down switcher with integrated FET. The wide-input converter helps saves board space and eases design in industrial and automotive applications.

The TPS54160 non-synchronous buck converter’s 3,5 V to 65 V input voltage range provides designers flexibility in applications with input transients. By leveraging TI’s Eco-mode light-load switching technique, the converter is able to achieve a low 116 μA operating current and 1,3 μA shutdown current. In addition, the converter’s high switching frequency range of 300 kHz to 2,5 MHz reduces the size of required output inductors to save board space.

The TPS54160’s frequency fold-back and thermal shutdown features allow the converter to protect itself during an overload condition. It also has an integrated track pin that simplifies various sequencing schemes and a clock pin that reduces noise by synchronising its switching frequency to an external clock.
