Rugged ZIF connectors

4 February 2009 Interconnection

AVX has developed a series of secure lock zero insertion force (ZIF) connectors that provide enhanced robustness and dependability for applications that require high reliability.

Designated the 6288 series, the connectors feature a shaped cable construction that guarantees correct alignment and eliminates failures due to misalignment. The connector’s one-touch flip lock provides audible and tactile feedback that facilitates ease-of-assembly, reduces production process failures, and prevents accidental removal of the cable in the field. The design includes a secure locking mechanism that ensures safe and reliable operation in harsh environments that include severe vibration.

The mouldings in the connector accept FFC/FPC cable and lock shapes to prevent accidental removal of the cable and incorrect insertions. The connectors are ideal for automotive applications, including audio/visual devices, DVD and satellite navigation screens, digital speedometers, tachometers and rear view mirror displays. The connectors can also be found in medical electronic applications such as handheld blood-sugar monitors and LCD screens.

The 6288 series connectors are available in six to 60 positions with a standard 0,5 mm pitch and an operating temperature range between -40°C and +105°C. The contacts feature a gold flash finish for higher reliability soldering.
