RJ45 plug connector for use in industry

28 March 2001 Interconnection

By using the Variosub-RJ45 plug connectors from Phoenix Contact it is possible to use RJ45 connectors even in a harsh industrial environment. This means that devices for industrial Ethernet applications can now also be fitted with the plug connector used as the standard in the IT world.

The plug connector is suitable for devices, infrastructure components and switch cabinets. It meets the requirements of the IAONA User Group for use in light-duty applications and is suitable for fast Ethernet transmission at 100 Mbps. Various female inserts and mounting frames are available for the device side, while the conductor side can have both a nozzle and a pin insert.

The female inserts for PCB mounting and the mounting frames are designed with standard pitch. This means that existing PCB layouts can continue to be used, normal commercial pin inserts can still be utilised.

With its push-pull latching system the nozzle protects the connection against mechanical stresses, shock and vibration, and allows the use of regular commercial cables. This type of latching saves space, is easily accessible, can be operated without tools and meets the requirements of protection Class IP20.
