8-port RS232 universal PCI card

Advantech’s PCI-1625U is an 8-port RS232 universal PCI communication card operating at speeds of up to 921,6 Kbps. The card has an onboard DSP processor that takes over the processing load from the host PC.
When large amounts of data from multiple ports are transferred, servicing the interrupts alone can consume a large percentage of the capacity of a computer’s CPU. For this purpose, the PCI-1625U also serves as a high-speed dedicated interrupt processor. It has 1 MB of SRAM, which can store serial data and reduce host CPU loading. When the card initialises, it downloads the driver software (which functions like a PC’s BIOS) into its onboard DSP. This improves performance and simplifies version upgrading, thereby eliminating hardware redundancy.
The PCI-1625U has a universal PCI connector that is compatible with both a 3,3 V and 5 V PCI bus. It also provides ICOM Tools, a convenient utility program to help test the PCI card’s performance by analysing the port status. The menu commands and toolbar buttons of ICOM Tools acts as a PC-based data scope that sets a trigger condition, captures the communications data and monitors the signal status. ICOM Tools is applicable to all series of Advantech ICOM cards.
The PCI-1625U is designed for industrial applications where a PC needs to communicate with terminals, modems or other instruments. RS422 applications are also possible, and require the optional OPT8FP, 8-port RS232 to RS422 converter with 2500 V DC isolation protection. Up to four PCI-1625U cards may be installed for a total of 32 ports in any PCI bus-based PC.
