AC switching solution with zero cross switching capability

14 March 2001 Switches, Relays & Keypads

Clare is offering its CPC1961G dual-pole AC solid state power switch. The device is claimed to be a cost-effective solution for applications that demand zero cross-switching capability, such as programmable controllers as well as solenoid, valve and motor controllers.

Clare's AC solid state power switch features a load voltage of 600 V and a load current rating of 250 mA with zero cross switching capabilities previously unavailable in a low-cost, all-silicon solution, it says. Designers of size-sensitive products will appreciate the CPC1961G's eight-pin DIP package. The compact package enables either the use of smaller boards, or the integration of additional functionality on the same size board, as designers migrate to higher channel densities. This all-silicon solution, offers increased reliability and a longer lifetime over electromechanical AC switches.

The CPC1961G also offers the versatility of tying the inputs and outputs together to obtain a single 600 V, 0,5 A AC solid state switch or for use as a triac driver for higher power applications. As important as these characteristics are, the unit's lower price versus competitive all-silicon AC switch solutions stands out as the CPC1961G's strongest attribute, according to the manufacturer.
