Expanded circular MT offering addresses rising performance demands

20 February 2008 Interconnection

Molex recently expanded its circular MT cable assemblies line to meet the rising performance demands mandated by a number of industries, including telecommunications, military and medical. The new 1-by-3 circular MT connector and adapter provide a reliable, high-density solution designed to meet or exceed the mechanical specifications of traditional inter-chassis connections.

With their metal housing and stainless steel push/twist locking ring, the circular MT cable assemblies offer a more robust MT ferrule-based interface, compared to traditional ribbon-based optical connectors. Both the circular MT Adapter and 1-by-3 circular MT Adapter housings feature a deep, polarised mating cavity that reduces alignment-pin hole damage that may occur with traditional MT connector systems. Additionally, features including cable management clips, shutters, removal tabs and cleaning tools, provide a complete solution to meet customers’ design and installation requirements.

Designed to fit round, multifibre jackets, connectors employ the use of 36 to 72 loose fibres in a single round ruggedised cable that allows for 360° rotation. The enhanced design features of the 1-by-3 circular MT ensure improved alignment benefits, increased pull-strength and enhanced fibre management. The 1-by-3 circular MT Connector is offered as a terminated cable assembly and customised for each customer’s application.
