12-bit DAC with integrated EEPROM

Microchip has launched the new MCP4725 digital-to-analog converter (DAC), claiming it to be the industry's first DAC to combine 12-bit resolution and an integrated EEPROM in a miniature, 6-pin SOT-23 package. The low-power, single-channel DAC has a buffered voltage output and is suitable for space-constrained and battery-powered applications in a variety of markets.

The non-volatile EEPROM enables the IC's settings to be recalled at power-up, without microcontroller intervention, providing flexibility for system designers and helping to reduce cost, power consumption and design footprint. For microcontroller connectivity, the device features an I²C interface with a single address selection pin. It has a shutdown current of just 0,06 μA, which also helps to extend battery life. In addition, its precision output amplifier provides a rail-to-rail analog output.
