IPTV monitoring system

6 February 2008 Test & Measurement

Radcom has launched its Omni-Q system for IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), capable of monitoring an entire IPTV network, end to end. This capability is made possible by the R70, a pure hardware probe which can deliver upper layer application analysis in realtime. Implementing the power of the R70 for IPTV analysis enables operators to scale up to hundreds of GbE links. The system solution gives IPTV service providers a comprehensive, correlated view of service delivery, complete with service quality metrics, over a large network.

This solution helps service providers solve service issues by measuring the performance and interaction of every component in the service delivery chain, by extracting and calculating critical performance metrics from communication lines. It monitors the quality of thousands of video streams simultaneously, providing a MOS score for each. It provides a full range of MPEG-Transport Stream analysis with MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H.263 support.

Omni-Q gives operators full visibility into subscriber service requests and their propagation into IPTV network elements such as middleware. It allows them to examine the performance of video on demand (VOD) and other application servers. The system solution monitors network and media KPIs (key performance indicators) regarding application performance, DVB Transport stream, network transmission (jitter, delay and packet loss), service usage and availability as well as specific subscriber transactions.
