Intersil has introduced a new brand of wireless products called PRISM/work specifically designed to meet the growing need for wireless LAN in the workplace. The company says it is targeting the enterprise and OEM market with a new range of products that provide business users with a higher level of standards-based performance including longer range, faster data rates, increased quality of service, improved ruggedness and inter-operability.
The new PRISM/work product range complements Intersil's recently announced PRISM/home product brand, which provides lower cost wireless chipsets optimised for the home market.
Wireless networks are now being widely deployed in the enterprise and networking markets as an alternative to expensive network cabling and to provide mobility for PC users. Forming separate work and home product families will allow Intersil to focus separately on these very different markets with specially designed chipsets optimised for each market.
"Our PRISM/work team are focussing on the specific requirements of the enterprise and OEM markets with a range of standards-compatible high-rate IEEE 802.11b 2,4 GHz wireless chipsets for 11 Mbps operation. And even higher speed 5 GHz solutions wireless LAN products are planned," said Larry Ciaccia, Vice President and General Manager of PRISM Wireless Products at Intersil.
