Compact DC-DC converters

23 January 2008 Power Electronics / Power Management

XP Power has released a new family of miniature, board-mounted, low power DC-DC converters. Measuring just 25,4 x 20,3 x 10,0 mm, the JCA series’ shielded metal package, combined with the industry-standard 24-pin DIP layout, makes the converters suitable as drop-in replacements for existing designs.

The JCA series comprises 2, 3, 4 and 6 W models, each offering a choice of four nominal input voltages of 5, 12, 24 and 48 V. Input options, covering a wide 2:1 voltage range, are 4,5 to 9,0 V, 9 to 18 V, 18 to 36 V and 36 to 75 V, with under-voltage lockout as standard.

For each input voltage, single output models offer +3,3, +5, +12 or +15 V outputs, while the dual output versions provide ±5, ±12 or ±15 V. Outputs are fully regulated, varying no more than ±0,3% over all input conditions, and less than ±1,0% across all load conditions. The converters offer basic input to output isolation rated at 1500 V d.c. and case to input or output isolation is 500 V d.c.

Suitable for a wide variety of application environments, the converters operate from -40°C to +100°C with derating required above +75°C. No additional heat sinking or forced air cooling is necessary.
