Logging multimeter features deep memory

23 January 2008 Test & Measurement

Fluke's new Fluke 289 is a high performance logging multimeter designed to solve complex problems in electronics, plant automation, power distribution and electro-mechanical equipment.

The Fluke 289 has a large 50 000 count, 1/4 VGA dot matrix display with white backlight. The logging function has expanded memory for unattended monitoring of signals over time. Using onboard TrendCapture, users can graphically review logged readings without needing a PC, and store up to 10 000 readings over time. It is also possible to save multiple logging sessions before PC download is necessary.

The multimeter has a two terminal 50 Ω range with 1 mΩ resolution, 10 mA source current. It is useful for measuring and comparing differences in motor winding resistance or contact resistance. A low-pass filter ensures accurate voltage and frequency measurements on adjustable speed motor drives and other electrically noisy equipment. A low impedance voltage function eliminates ghost voltages, also recommended when testing for absence or presence of live power.

Other functions include a realtime clock for automatic time stamping of saved readings, and a relative mode to remove test lead resistance from low resistance or capacitance measurements.
