Highly efficient step-up DC-DC converter

5 September 2007 Power Electronics / Power Management

The AS1326 from austriamicrosystems is a synchronous, high efficiency, step-up DC-DC converter in a small TDFN 10-pin package. It delivers 620 mA at 5,0 V from two AA cells or 470 mA at 3,3 V from a single AA cell and can provide adjustable output voltages in the range of 2,5 to 5 V or fixed at 3,3 V. Furthermore, it operates from a voltage between 0,7 and 5 V while offering adjustable soft-start and current limit. The device uses a 1 MHz fixed switching frequency and can also synchronise the switching frequency to an external clock between 500 kHz and 1,2 MHz. Another feature of this device is the automatic power save function which improves efficiency at light loads. During forced PWM mode, the AS1326 maintains fixed frequency operation and is therefore ideal for applications with the need for predictable and easily filtered output noise. The AS1326 covers the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
