Evaluation kit for ultra-narrowband RF transceiver

5 September 2007 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Axsem's AX5042-EVK USB Evaluation Kit is a complete ready-to-go kit for the test and evaluation of the AX5042, an ultra-narrowband low-cost RF transceiver IC, ideally suited for long range applications in the sub 1 GHz ISM bands (433/868/915 MHz). The AX5042 also meets IEEE 802.15.4 PHY layer specification and is ideal for automatic meter reading (AMR), home and building automation as well as industrial and consumer applications.

The evaluation kit enables users to configure the RF parameters and the baseband of the transceiver. It also offers the possibility to send packet data easily and measure packet error rate. It includes two miniature USB development and evaluation boards, which comprise a transceiver and an on-board 8051 microcontroller with integrated USB interface and 16 KB Flash memory.

The board features an integrated loop antenna and is configured for the connection of an external antenna. The microcontroller hosts a demo application which is used to interface the transceiver over a USB port to the AXcontrol EVK windows application, which is used to configure the evaluation board and can also be used to measure packet error rate.
