Alps' new EC12D series is a new family of incremental-type encoders with centre-push switch. The compact devices feature an insulated shaft with 6 mm diameter and an operating length of 17,5 mm. They feature resolution of 15 pulses or 30 detents per rotation. They are rated for voltages of 5 V d.c. and have a maximum operating current of 5 mA with a resistive load. Further technical specifications include an insulation resistance of 10 MΩ at 250 V d.c., a voltage proof of 300 V a.c. per minute and a push-pull-strength of 100 N. The output signals are proportionate to the phase difference.
The centre push switch is designed as a single-pole single-throw push-on switch and is rated for switching currents of up to 1 mA at 5 V d.c. It requires an operating force of 3 N (+1,5/-1,0 N). The actuating travel of the switch amounts to 0,5 ±0,3 mm and the maximum initial contact resistance is specified as 100 mΩ.
The vertically mountable EC12D series features an operating life of up to 30 000 switching cycles or 15 000 rotational cycles. The operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +70°C. The encoders are housed in a compact body with external dimensions of 12,5 mm x 11,7 mm x 5 mm (W x D x H), with an octagonal structure for smaller outline dimensions. In addition, this octagonal shape facilitates the placement of LEDs for knob illumination close to the encoder.
