Infineon recently introduced a new family of compact IGBT modules that enable power converter system solutions optimised for various industrial drives, windmills, elevators, traction or auxiliary drives, power supplies and heating systems in trains and tractors.
The company claims that the new PrimePACK modules in the 1200 V and 1700 V classes are up to 45% lighter than competitive devices.
These modules are based on an innovative packaging concept that utilises the advantages of the Infineon IGBT4 chips, which feature excellent electrical ruggedness. Heat distribution is optimised since the IGBT chips are close to the baseplate's screw-fastening points, resulting in a low thermal resistance between the baseplate and heatsink. Internal stray inductance is claimed to be approximately 60% less than that of competitive modules.
The half-bridge configuration and modular design of the PrimePACK modules make it easy to scale the converter power by employing different module sizes or by connecting the modules of a given type in parallel. Modules are lightweight and are available in two sizes - the 89 mm x 172 mm PrimePACK 2 and the 89 mm x 250 mm PrimePACK 3.
