New surface mount resistors offer wide value range

Passive Components
Tyco Electronics has released a new series of surface mount power resistors in 1 W, 2 W, 3 W and 5 W packages with pick-and-place suitability.
Available in very wide value ranges from 10 Ω-2 MΩ for the 1 W version and 0, 10 Ω-2 MΩ for the 2 W, 3 W and 5 W components in the E24 value grid, these resistors are available in tolerances of 1% or 5%. The 1 W version is only available in metal film format, whereas the 2, 3 and 5 W versions are available in metal film as well as wire-wound format. Maximum operating voltage is 300 V for 1 and 2 W devices and 500 V for 3 and 5 W resistors. All SM series power resistors are offered on tape.
Suited to meet today's circuit design needs in applications such as consumer electronics, computers, telecommunications and control instruments, the new SM series power resistors offer the user the ability to use true vacuum pick-place heads for automatic placement. There is no need for either the forming of leads or pincer tools for pick-and-place.
These resistors benefit from a low profile case design with flexible tinned copper terminations for reliable solder joints. All versions utilise a fully welded construction technique, unlike other designs that rely solely on tinned termination connections. These features allow SM series devices to withstand higher temperatures associated with reflow, vapour phase, or infrared (IR) manufacturing processes without degradation. The components are designed for a very wide operating temperature range from -55 to +200°C, making them a suitable solution when replacing leaded components.
