Wall-mounted and floor-standing enclosure for fast assembly by one person

Compact distributors for floors or departments are always needed in networks. Rittal’s innovative solution to this takes account of the rising demand for low-cost models without neglecting user benefits or an attractive design.

The FlatBox is delivered as a flatpack, thereby optimising transport and storage capacities.

Given their symmetrical design, FlatBoxes can be arranged in lines or stacked one on top of another. The snap elements fitted as standard make it easy for one person to build the enclosure without the need for any tools. The FlatBox can be supplied in heights of between 6 and 21 U, depths of between 400 and 700 mm and widths of 600 to 700 mm. For 12 U and higher FlatBoxes, levelling feet are supplied when siting on the ground. Each FlatBox has passive ventilation and can have active fans fitted to ensure that active equipment is ventilated with ambient air.

Quick assembly

Assembling the wall-mounted enclosure is a very simple task. The wall section is used to mark the four attachment points on the wall and the appropriate plugs and screws fitted. The basic supports on the right and left on the assembly bench are then secured to the rear panel using snap-in connectors. These maximise working space and optimise accessibility as they do not obscure any of the system components. Additional cut-outs offer more space for managing cables and mains connectors. The 19" rails are simply snapped into their defined positions on the right and left.

If the enclosure is 12 U or higher, torsionally stiff mounting frames are used rather than L-shaped mounting angles. In both versions, the 19" mounting angles can be used in increments of 25 mm. The pre-assembled enclosure is then simply attached to the wall and fixed into place. If FlatBox is used as a floor-standing enclosure, the levelling feet are simply screw-fastened.

The roof and gland plates are simply slid onto the basic construction and fixed into place. Once inserted, the symmetrical side panels are secured with a safety lock. The cables enter from above and/or from below using integrated brush strips. There are up to two fan bays on each panel (maximum eight in total) to allow for good air flow. They also protect the components from overheating by offering passive ventilation without high heat loss. The stylish front door featuring safety glass also ensures the superior visual appearance required of such an enclosure.
