Schurter has released a new SMD-fuse that meets the standard of ESA/SCC Generic Specification No 4008 for space applications. The new MGA-S is based on the existing design of the company's MGA, which is made using thin-film technology.
This new product meets the requirements of the space industry, which demands an hermetical seal and rugged construction. Further, it offers consistent minimum and maximum clear-times at overload currents regardless of vacuum conditions, says Schurter. Its small dimensions in 1206 footprint (3,2 x 1,55 mm) are unique for a fuse in this market segment.
Target applications include equipment that is launched into orbit with a specific focus on satellite power system architectures, which operate up to 125 V d.c. in vacuum environments. This includes protection of power supplies, batteries and solar arrays.
