AMD appoints MEA leader and sharpens focus on South Africa

4 April 2007 News

AMD has appointed Gautam Srivastava as vice president, sales and marketing; managing director, Middle East, Africa (MEA) and Pakistan. In his new role, Srivastava, who will be based in Dubai, will assume broad management of AMD's operations as the company's most senior executive overseeing this region.

Srivastava's appointment represents a sharpened focus by AMD in the region and on South Africa in particular, said the company. His priority will be to increase customer choice in the region, with a focus on establishing long-term relationships with partners and key customers, particularly government and large enterprises. In the region, he will also lead AMD's 50x15 initiative, which seeks to empower 50% of the world's population with Internet access by the year 2015.

Srivastava said he will focus two of his key regional executives on South Africa: Gaith Kadir and Abdallah Saqqa. Kadir, AMD regional director, will continue to be heavily involved in the region with a focus on tenders and building strong bonds with strategic customers in enterprise and government. Abdallah Saqqa, AMD regional distribution manager, will now also oversee distribution in South Africa as part of his regional portfolio.
