Battery testing system finds favour with large telcos

21 February 2007 Test & Measurement

Comtest has delivered an order of 14 Midtronics Ultra battery testers to SA's fixed-line operator and a further seven to MCell in Mozambique. Midtronics' non-destructive, non-invasive testing system, allows companies to predict battery maintenance cycles more accurately and make informed decisions as to whether to replace or extend a battery's lifecycle.

Hilton Preston, Comtest product manager remarked: "In South Africa the amount of standby power that is required is significant and to manage it requires a lot of time. From our experience many companies run in excess of 200 days behind their planned battery maintenance programme. This can result in downtime, aggravation and serious loss of revenue. With the Midtronics solution, we are now able to assist these companies to optimise their battery maintenance programmes and to be aware of the batteries state of health at all times."

Comtest distributes the industrial range of Midtronics battery test equipment in southern Africa.
