Reliable on-site module connections

7 February 2007 Interconnection

A connection technology industry standard for fieldbus modules has long been in existence. A 7/8 inch connector is used for the power supply, and M12 is relied on in the b-coding for the fieldbus connection. Murrelektronik offers a comprehensive range of pre-wired and pre-tested connecting cables for this application.

Customers who have to make their connectors themselves when installing large systems on site have always had to use the complicated method with a screw-in or soldered connector. This is no longer necessary, since Murrelektronik can now supply 7/8 inch and M12 b-coded round connectors that use the proven insulation displacement technology (IDC) to provide a rapid, fault-free connection. All that is needed is to remove the outer sheath of the cable and insert the wires into the colour-coded chambers of the connector. The connector is then screwed together and a reliable connection is made.
