Protea at Dexsa
24 January 2001
News
To mark the celebration of the South African Air Force's 80th anniversary, the biennial Dexsa and Aerospace Africa exhibitions were combined for the year 2000 into Africa Aerospace & Defence 2000. Protea Electronics' Communication & Measurement division had a stand at this year's exhibition and reports as follows.
Africa Aerospace & Defence 2000 was the most comprehensive civil/military aerospace and defence-related exhibition ever held on the African continent and took place at Waterkloof in Pretoria in September. Attendance was much higher than anticipated with an estimated 250 000 visitors on Saturday 9 September.
Visitors to the show had an opportunity to view some of the most technologically advanced radio communications equipment available today. Protea Electronics' extensive range of military spec communications and measurement equipment from Rohde & Schwarz was on display. Rohde & Schwarz, based in Germany, was represented by the Area Sales Manager for Africa, Helmut Wiechers.
Asked to comment on the show, Wiechers said, "I am very happy with the results we obtained at the show. I managed to hold productive talks on future relationships with potential customers and the exhibition also gave me an opportunity to have direct contact with key existing customers. I think that South Africa holds huge potential for Rohde & Schwarz. Together with our partner, Protea Electronics, we offer a technical competency that is unique in Africa."
Rohde & Schwarz used Africa Aerospace & Defence 2000 to introduce the M3TR, a brand new combat radio especially designed for defence force requirements.
