Small form-factor computer system enables embedded applications with high-end graphics and I/O

18 October 2006 Computer/Embedded Technology

Ampro Computers has launched, at the Embedded Systems Conference, a new computer based on its MightyBoard family of embedded single board computers. The new turnkey computer, called MightySystem, is in a Mini-ITX form-factor that allows OEMs and solution providers to build systems that greatly improves graphics and data processing performance in a small footprint.

MightySystem enables high resolution displays up to 2048 x 1526 75 Hz CRT and 24-bit LVDS resolution up to 1600 x 1200. Additionally, MightySystem products complement Ampro's ReadySystem industrial computers adding Mini-ITX enclosures and offering support for Intel processors up to 2,0 GHz with PCI Express graphics and I/O, Gigabit Ethernet, Serial ATA (SATA) storage, USB 2.0, up to 2 GB DDR2 RAM, and ACPI power management.

According to Ampro, this system allows for extraordinary flexibility in building a computing solution without performance constraints. It is an ideal solution for a media PC or an A/V centre environment. Optical storage is available with a slim line DVD-ROM/CD-RW for media centric applications. The small form-factor system allows OEMs and system integrators to build high performance while making it very easy to work inside the enclosure.

Media playback, Direct3D gaming and multimedia authoring are among the targeted applications for MightySystem computers as well as a host of other custom PC solutions. Supporting both CRT and LVDS video interfaces, the systems are well-suited for digital media, gaming and other graphics-intensive applications.

A MightySystem based on the MightyBoard 800 offers up to 1,4 GHz Pentium M while a MightyBoard 821-based system offers a choice of 2,0 GHz Pentium M 760 or 1,5 GHz Celeron M 370 processor.

The MightySystem products are available with Windows XP/XP Embedded/CE, and a full Linux 2.6 distribution.
