Mimic Components says it has pioneered the use of LED pilot lights in South Africa and with over 15 years experience in indication devices is well qualified to comment on their practical applications. LEDs (light emitting diodes) are semiconductor devices that, unlike normal filament type globes or xenon tubes, emit only a single frequency of light depending on the LED's construction.
LED technology is developing fast, and with brightnesses increasing and colours expanding, LEDs and LED indicators are now an industry standard for applications in control panels and desks or any other panel mount application. Their lifespan of around 150 000 hours makes them ultra reliable, which gives installers and suppliers peace of mind as they ensure long, trustworthy operation with minimal failures, even in harsh environments such as the mining industry.
The distinct advantages of using LEDs in these applications has led to an increasingly diverse and heavy demand. The wide variety of indicators, pilot lights, semaphores and illuminated pushbuttons available from Mimic Components are able to meet those demands. Manufactured by the company using the latest SMD LEDs, its low profile semaphores have proven successful worldwide, along with some of its other in-house manufactured products.
Available for voltages ranging from 2 V to 600 V, and in colours including red, green, yellow, orange, blue and white, as well as in sizes to fit most panel cutouts, LED indicators are available for virtually any application.
