Chip simplifies control of automotive loads

AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) offers a new high-side driver IC to simplify the control of transistor gates, relays, valves, solenoids, LEDs and other loads in 12 V automotive environments. Supplied in a compact SO28 package, the AMIS-39100 is a highly integrated driver IC, with eight high side output drivers and a range of functions and features designed to significantly reduce component count and cost. Built-in functionality includes a serial-to-parallel interface (SPI) for direct connection to a microcontroller, an integrated diagnostic circuit, a charge pump, and short circuit and thermal overload protection. Each of the eight output drivers can drive 275 mA continuously when connected to an inductive load of 300 mH. Higher individual output currents are possible by limiting device current to the total maximum. Compatible with 3,3 V and 5 V microcontrollers, the SPI interface is used to control each individual output and provide diagnostic feedback of error signals.
