Versatile wire-to-board connection provides permanent connection integrity

9 August 2006 Interconnection

Self-retaining contacts with dedicated housings, offering rapid installation and permanent connection integrity are the key features of the range of Ampmodu Locking Clip connectors from Tyco Electronics. They are particularly suited for wire-to-board applications encountering vibration, shock or movement during their working life.

Designed to mate with industry standard 0,63 x 0,63 mm or 0,79 x 1,57 mm pin header posts, no additional fastenings or bulky latching features are required to ensure that connectors stay permanently mated once installed, whilst retaining quick disconnect flexibility if required.

The Locking Clip contacts feature an innovative spring, which during installation onto header posts, performs no apparent function. However, attempts at removal will see the spring lock firmly on to the post ensuring the connection cannot be disturbed by shock, vibration or direct pulling on the wires. Removal is achieved however, by pulling directly on the dedicated Locking Clip housing. This deflects the contact spring and releases the header post. When using unhoused contacts, disconnection is achieved by using an inexpensive extraction tool.

The Locking Clip connectors are available for wire size ranges 20-30 AWG.
