Small RF SAW filters for RFID

Murata has completed the development of an RF SAW filter for the UHF RFID band for reader/writers.

The SAFCH953MAA0X00 model utilises 2 MHz bandwidth between 952 and 954 MHz. Since cellular phones use the neighbouring bandwidth, the electric characteristic of this filter needs to be acutely selective.

Murata achieved low loss and high attenuation by using a quartz substrate with good temperature characteristics, as well as its own electrode design technology. It has maintained the transmission loss at the 2 MHz bandwidth between 952 and 954 MHz at a low level less than 4,5 dB while maintaining high attenuation in the neighbouring cellphone frequency at over 20 dB.

The size has also been reduced compared to existing mainstream filters (3,8 x 3,8 x 1,5 mm).
