Multistandard modem includes high-quality DTMF decoder

The CMX867A is a member of CML's wireline modem IC family. This is an enhanced V.22 multistandard modem IC, specifically targeted at telephone-based information systems.

The key feature of the device is the inclusion of a high-quality DTMF decoder, offering superior immunity to falsing on voice, increasing the applications to which this advanced modem IC is suited. Operations such as those met in industrial control systems, security systems, telephone telemetry and advanced payphones are but a few of the CMX867A's target applications.

Control and data transfer is via a simple high-speed serial bus, compatible with standard microcontroller interfaces. Data transfer is conveniently handled by user-selected 8-bit bytes or 16-bit words via on-chip, programmable Tx and Rx USARTs. Supported formats are either transparent synchronous data or multiformat asynchronous data compatible with ITU V.14 recommendations.

The device features a ringing-signal/line-reversal detector that continues to function when the device is in its Powersave mode, providing an interrupt which can be used to wake-up the host controller when these signals are detected. A hook-switch/relay-drive output, software gain controls and DTMF transmit twist compensation complete the DAA controller. Flexible line-drivers and a receiver hybrid are integrated on-chip, requiring only passive external components to operate in a 2-wire or 4-wire line interface.

The CMX867A operates from a single 2,7 to 5,5 V supply and is available in 24-pin TSSOP, SOIC and DIP packages.
