High intensity LED lighting unit offers building block approach

3 May 2006 Opto-Electronics

Bivar's design centre solutions business unit has introduced new 1 W LED blocks for use in industrial, automotive, architectural, backlighting and intense single or multiple lighting applications. The series offers new freedom of design in configuring modular high-intensity lighting sources for applications requiring versatility in lighting style, power-based options, and choice of mounting methods.

The B3 Series Hi-Brite Block is designed to enable a choice of three different spotlight lenses or optional low-profile diffused lenses and floodlight lens styles. The design also features a choice of popular industry-standard colour LEDs including high power Cree XLamp LEDs.

The LEDs are surface mounted onto a miniature internal PCB and assembled in either a low-profile base for diffused or flood lighting, or a modular base with power options including direct drive or integrated DC-DC current regulator (optional AC/DC wall mount adapters available).

This design enables high intensity illumination in a self-contained and powered unit in 25,4 x 25,4 mm footprint. The B3 Series exhibits a viewing angle of 100°, using InGaN and AllinGaAIP materials with wavelengths of 465 to 635 nm (up to 8000 K in white). Maximum If rating is 400 mA.
