Battery-less buffer module is maintenance-free

22 February 2006 Power Electronics / Power Management

With the use of special electrolytic capacitors, Feas has introduced a novel buffer module as an alternative concept for uninterruptible power supplies.

The SSE05 buffer module, simply connected in parallel to a load circuit, supplies standby voltage as soon as the load voltage of the power supply drops under a specific value, and it does this without generating any impulses, says Feas. Since it has a wide voltage range, the use of an unregulated power supply is possible (input voltage up to 35 V d.c.).

The ride-through time of the SSE05 at 22,5 V is: 0,6 s at 10 A; 18 s at 1,0 A; and 85 s at 100 mA. This means, most line interruptions or fluctuations are covered with such a system. In order to increase the buffer time and/or the load current, unlimited numbers of modules may be connected in parallel.

The space-saving module is designed for DIN-rail mount. Use of special resin makes it shockproof and suitable for tropical conditions.
