The Elab-080 from Dynon Instruments is a complete electronics lab on its own and packs six powerful instruments into one. PC-based test instruments are becoming more and more popular. A PC-based instrument hooked up with a Pentium processor and graphical software over a USB bus has far more processing power to its disposal than a traditional instrument, says that manufacturer. Features and advantages include significantly reduced cost, the integration of multiple instruments, the ability to log data to hard disk, powerful data analysis (eg, FFT), large colour display and a small weight and size for the unit.
The instruments in the Elab-080 include: digital storage oscilloscope (DSO); logic analyser (LA); spectrum analyser (SA); waveform generator (WG); programmable power supplies (PSU); and programmable clocks (PC).
All measurements are taken at 80 MS/s while the Waveform Generator operates at 100 MS/s. Every channel also has its own separate memory. A complete kit of cables and power supply is provided. With the Elab every engineer and technician can have his or her own complete electronics lab, avoiding having to run around trying to borrow instruments.
The software provided with the Elab is user-friendly and provides control of all the instruments from a single application. The software provides very powerful features such as the ability to do digital and analogue testing simultaneously. For example, a person can capture a signal with the DSO and then regenerate that same signal with the WG. The trigger function is very versatile and can start the capturing process based on DSO data such as voltage levels or LA data, such as single channels, or even the hex value of a custom-defined bus consisting of up to 16 channels.
A DLL file is available for customised control from Windows applications as well as a driver for LabView. Complete specifications and demo software can be seen at the website www.praktici.co.za
