Coolers help stop electronics downtime

16 November 2005 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

Exair's Cabinet Coolers are a low cost, reliable way to cool and purge electronic panels. They incorporate a vortex tube to produce cold air from compressed air - using no moving parts. These Cabinet Coolers are compact and can be quickly installed through a standard electrical knockout. NEMA 4, 4X and 12 coolers that match the NEMA rating of enclosures are available in many different cooling capacities for large and small control panels.

The vortex tubes in Exair's Cabinet Coolers are made of stainless steel, assuring long life. Unlike simple vortex tubes, they have a cold fraction factory set, which stabilises the relative humidity at 45%. This prevents condensation within the cabinet, a problem when using straight vortex tubes.

Cabinet Coolers are available with or without thermostatic control. The continuous coolers are recommended when constant cooling and a constant positive purge are desirable. The thermostatically-controlled systems save air by activating the cooler only when the internal temperature reaches critical levels. Thermostatic systems are recommended where heat load fluctuates and continuous purge is not required.

A filtration system can be provided, which includes a 5 micron automatic drain water and dirt filter. This filter is critical for protecting electronics from water that may be present in the compressed air supply line. If oil is present in the supply line a coalescing filter is recommended.
