DAQ system for sensors and high-voltage measurements is highly portable

5 October 2005 Test & Measurement

National Instruments offers two new versions of the NI DAQPad-6015, a plug-and-play, multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) device for USB. Engineers and scientists can use NI's SCC signal conditioning devices with the DAQPad-6015 mass termination version to measure a wide range of sensor and high-voltage signals up to 100 V d.c. The signal conditioning carriers fit neatly on top of it to create a portable, customisable data acquisition system with up to 300 V Cat II isolation per module.

The combined DAQPad-6015 and SCC system suit applications requiring a laptop (USB-enabled) for portability. Examples are vehicle and machine diagnostic applications or biomedical environments that often require measurement systems to be portable.

Because the DAQPad-6015 connects to SCC signal conditioning carriers such as the SC-2345 and SC-2350 modules for transducer electronic data sheets (TEDS), engineers can reduce system set-up time by taking advantage of USB plug-and-play features and smart sensor technology. Engineers can use the SCC carriers to select their sensor or signal conditioning types, as well as their direct connectivity types on a per-channel basis.

The combined DAQPad-6015 and SCC system is well-suited for applications requiring a laptop for portability because it connects easily via USB to any laptop and provides a broad range of measurements in the field. For example, vehicle and machine diagnostic applications or biomedical environments often require portable measurement systems that engineers can transport directly to where they are conducting tests.

For portable applications that do not require signal conditioning, the BNC connector version of the DAQPad-6015 is useful for portable, quick signal connection and disconnection. All DAQPad-6015 versions offer 16 16-bit AI channels, two AO channels and eight DIO channels, giving the ability to address both measurement and control needs with a single device. They also include NI-DAQmx measurement services software and are compatible with NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio for Visual Studio .NET and other USB data acquisition devices.

NI also recently announced its M Series, the next generation of data acquisition hardware that is capable of taking measurements with up to 18-bit accuracy and at speeds of up to 1,25 MS/s.
