Log amplifier for RF power measurements

A new high performance log detector from Linear Technology offers superior sensitivity, allowing more accurate measurement of lower levels of RF and IF signals. The LT5537 has a wide operating frequency range from near DC to 1 GHz, and features a 90 dB measurement dynamic range. The device incorporates a cascading chain of limiting amplifiers to provide a constant, linear 20 mV/dB logarithmic detection function. It incorporates on-chip compensation circuitry for accurate and stable output under varying temperatures. The LT5537 can measure signals within ±1 dB error over worst-case temperatures. It is capable of detecting RF signal levels as low as -82 dBm, while on the high side, can measure up to +12 dBm input levels. The device operates from single supply 2,7 to 5,25 V and typically draws 13,5 mA. It is offered in 8-lead 3 x 2 mm surface mount DFN package.
