One piece SMD inductors

13 July 2005 Passive Components

Neosid does not use glue to mount inductor bobbins onto their base plates. Instead, it fabricates both parts in one piece, as ferrite components. This is made possible through the company's special injection-moulding process that allows it to produce ferrites in all shapes. In this way, troublesome faults that occur during bonding and at the gluing points, are avoided.

A secondary advantage is that the metal clips, soldering pins, and the plating thereof, are not required. The lead-out wires of the coil windings are simply tinned and so they then act as the SMD soldering points for mounting onto the PCBs.

The compact design of Neosid's new serties of fixed inductors - the MS 50, MS 85, MS 40 and MS 42 - means that they only require a minimum of space. Another advantage is their small stray field. Inductances from 10 nH to 150 mH are possible with currents up to 7 A.

Applications are typically for: interference suppression, DC-DC converters, decoupling in high frequency circuits and motor vehicle electronics.
