Connector market to slow in 2005
18 May 2005
News
The connector industry achieved sales of $33,4 bn in 2004, growing by 17,9% according to Bishop & Associates' new Connector Industry Forecast Report just published. This makes 2004 the second-best year in industry history, according to the specialist market research firm. The industry's best year was 2000, when sales increased by 18,1%. All geographic regions achieved double-digit growth with China up an incredible 34,8%.
With the US dollar continuing to decline versus major currencies throughout 2004, real growth as measured in local currencies was 13,4%, according to the report.
In terms of the outlook for 2005, the market research firm says that it now appears that the electronics market and the connector industry will take a breather from the blistering 17,9% growth in 2004. After two months of 2005, connector orders are down year-to-date (-2,3%) and sales are down -0,1%. This compares to orders up 30,7% and sales up 26,0% after January and February of 2004. So, 2005 is off to a slow start, it says.
Bishop & Associates publishes four quarterly connector forecasts each year. In addition to the detailed forecasts for each region of the world, an industry overview is included which provides current market trends by sector, and outlook narrative by sector and region.
