World's highest density FPGA claimed

The Virtex-4 LX200 device is now the world's highest density FPGA, according to its manufacturer, Xilinx. It says with 200448 logic cells, the LX200 has 30% more logic capacity than the closest competing FPGA. In addition to logic, the device features unique embedded IP functions such as built-in FIFO control logic and dedicated circuitry for memory and source synchronous interfaces in every I/O cell, boosting the effective logic density. The LX200 also uses less power (by 5 W) and reduces (by seven times) the switching output noise and crosstalk compared to standard 90 nm FPGAs, claims Xilinx. The Virtex-4 family is supported by version 7.1i of Xilinx' ISE tools and a large library of IP functions.
