World's smallest dual axis accelerometer with I²C interface

A new dual accelerometer being offered in the RoHS compliant low-profile version of the industry standard LCC-8 package, is claimed to be the world's smallest accelerometer with an integrated I²C interface. The MXC6202 device from Memsic is based on the company's latest generation of advanced thermal sensor technology and measures 5 x 5 x 1,55 mm.

The MXC6202 operates in the I²C slave mode, supports FAST (400 kHz) data transfers, includes an on-chip temperature sensor, and can be set to eight different customer defined addresses. All device functions are controlled through the I²C bus including power up/down and self test. It can be configured as 1,8 V digital I/O compliant or operated from a single supply of 2,7 to 3,6 V.

As the only dual axis accelerometer fabricated on a monolithic CMOS process, Memsic says that its products are opening up many new consumer applications. The company's technology is being used for many applications that require the sensing of motion, acceleration, tilt, or vibration and currently it can be found in cellphones, DLP projectors, laptop computers and automotive and handheld navigation systems.
