"Everybody talks about lead-free, but how can a general user get started without a great deal of effort?" asks Bernhard Martin, who was amongst the first to present a technologically faultless and uncomplicated solution in conjunction with his rework machines. "We now want to help those wishing, or having to get started, in this new technology to take the first practical steps."
The new flow and wetting characteristics of lead-free solder has changed the timings and above all, more precision is needed when soldering. All this has to be got used to. To facilitate a rapid and smooth transition to the imminent lead-free era, Martin devised the SMT Training Set.
The kits contain: PCBs, demo BGAs, QFPs, and chip components, as well as flux and solder paste for lead-free processing. These sets allow users to get to grips with the new demands without running risks. It starts with the correct handling of the PCBs and finishes with the slightly changed appearance of solder joints.
