Phoenix Contact's new PSI-MOS fibre-optic transmission system enables modular and simple networking of all common serial interfaces using fibre-optic cables. These interfaces include Interbus, Profibus, Modbus, DeviceNet, CANopen and many other company-specific RS485 systems. Standalone operation and modular design using multichannel optical star couplers are the special features of these devices.
Cross-wiring for data and power supply is automatically provided by mounting onto the EN rails.
In addition, the devices' optical range for polymer, HCS (hard clad silica) and glass fibres has been enhanced. Integrated line diagnostics give feedback on the quality of the fibre-optic connection during the initial set-up. This eliminates the need for calibrating optical lines. An early warning system informs the user when a defined minimum power level is reached during operation.
Installation concepts for every type of topology can be realised using this transmission system. These concepts can be used in line, star, and tree structures. They can also be used in redundant structures when greater security is required. The fibre-optic connection technology conforms to international standards and is designed for easy on-site assembly.
