165 W AC/DC switchers in ultra-compact footprint

20 October 2004 Power Electronics / Power Management

XP has introduced an ultra-compact open-frame AC/DC switching power supply intended for space-constrained applications in telecommunications, industrial automation, networking and datacoms.

The IFC165, a 165 W power supply in a 76 x 127 x 32 mm package, has a power density of 0,54 W/cm³. It is offered in single, triple and quad-output versions with output voltages from 3,3 to 48 V d.c. and it has a universal AC input of 90 V a.c. to 264 V a.c. This ultra-compact power supply fits into a 1U chassis, and with 85% to 90% efficiency (depending on version), saves energy, reduces heat generation and improves system reliability while minimising the need for cooling. Full power is delivered with just 12CFM airflow, says the manufacturer. It operates from -25 to +70°C delivering full output at up to +507°C and 82,5 W output at +70°C.

This innovative switcher has built-in overvoltage, overcurrent and over-temperature protection, and integral power fail detection. It features maximum ripple and noise of ±1% or 50 mV (whichever is greater) and line and load regulation of ±3% on all single output models. A remote sense function compensates for up to a 0,5 V drop at the load. All single output models also include an auxiliary 12 V d.c./1 A output and offer single wire current sharing with ORing diodes.
