Enhanced optical transceiver for automotive applications

6 October 2004 Opto-Electronics System Integration & Control Systems Design

A new fibre-optics transceiver from Infineon Technologies comes in a new modified low-cost cavity as interface (CAI) package and complies with the latest media oriented systems transport (MOST) PHY 1.1 specification. The IC supports data rates up to 50 Mbps and has superior EMI/ESD performance.

Called ODIN, for optic drives into networks, this robust transceiver supports an operating temperature of +95°C and a solder temperature of +260°C. It also features an improved power budget for greater tolerances across the entire system. Applications include: MOST device connectors in automotive multimedia systems; networks in EMI environments; home networking; and audio/video connections.
