The AAT1151 synchronous buck converter delivers more than 700 mA output current in a compact 3 x 3 mm QFN package across a 2,7 to 5,5 V input range, says its manufacturer, Advanced Analogic Technologies. It can be used in a variety of portable applications powered by a single-cell Li-Ion/Polymer battery. It operates at a fixed 850 kHz switching frequency and combines PWM and PFM control to maintain high efficiency across all loads. The low on-resistance, 110 mΩ and 100 mΩ integrated MOSFETs respectively for the switch and synchronous rectifier, increases full load efficiency. The current-mode controlled AAT1151 uses synchronous rectification to reach efficiency levels of up to 95%, while fully integrated compensation simplifies design and minimises external parts count. Shutdown current is less than 1 mA.
