Converter integrates FETs to simplify 3,3 V supply

Texas Instruments has released a high-efficiency step-down, continuous-output 14 A DC/DC converter with peak 18 A FETs integrated onto a single chip. It comes in 28-pin HTSSOP (6,4 x 9,7 mm). This synchronous device offers point-of-load designers greater flexibility and faster time to market when designing 3,3 V systems that use high-performance DSPs, FPGAs and microprocessors. The TPS54010 SWIFT (switcher with integrated FET technology) converter provides more than 90% power efficiency and 1% output voltage accuracy (down to 0,9 V) and integrates an array of control and supervisory features, says TI. Switching frequency is fixed over the entire output current range, and can be adjusted up to 700 kHz to reduce the size of passive components. The Swift device comes with an interactive software development tool and an evaluation module for power system designers.
