The ±5 g ADXL320 and ±10 g ADXL321 iMEMS accelerometers are the first dual-axis MEMS accelerometers available in thin 4 x 4 x 1,45 mm plastic LFCSP packages. The lowest cost and smallest accelerometer footprint available that does not compromise performance, quality, and reliability according to its manufacturer, Analog Devices.
The ADXL320 is a thin package (1,45 mm) and low power (450 µA current at 3 V) ±5 g iMEMS accelerometer designed to accommodate the integration requirements of cellphones for a variety of motion-sensing, tilt-sensing, and inertial-sensing features (eg, data entry, menu, and display control; contextual awareness; and navigation and portrait vs landscape). The device can also be used for security features and hard drive protection systems in laptop computers as well as position and tilt sensing for PC peripherals such as a 3D mouse.
The ADXL321 - the ±10 g version - enables vibration detection and feed forward compensation solutions for applications such as automotive DVD and CD drives, as well as out-of-balance detection in washing machines.
These devices use single-supply operation, low power: 450 ±A at VS = 3 V (typical). X and Y axes are aligned to within 0,1° (typical), and resolution is 2 mg at 60 Hz. They are rated for 3500 g shock survival.
