Continued strong growth predicted for power management ICs

Power management is an exciting semiconductor market growth area. New technology trends in power provide longer battery life, minimised recharging times, and efficient power utilisation for electronics in all market segments. Combine this with mounting demand for portable electronics, increasing electronic content in existing products, and today's high-speed digital processing requirements, and you have a significant and progressive opportunity for power-focused suppliers.
Leading analog industry analyst firm, Databeans, ( www.databeans.net) predicts strong revenue growth for this market, which is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 16% for analog products, and at a 10% growth rate for the power management market as a whole, which would include both analog and discretes.
"The economics of this trend is driving increased competition in the power management market," said Susie Inouye, senior industry analyst at Databeans. "While this large market continues to consolidate, we expect a growing number of smaller firms with high technological competence to successfully compete."
According to the group's recently released report on the power management market, analog power products, including switching regulators and linear regulators, form the fastest growing revenue opportunity within power semiconductors. Combined, revenue from regulator products constitutes 27% of the power management market today, but share is expected to increase to 36% by 2008. Regionally, Asia continues to dominate this market, consuming the majority of shipments, according to the research findings.
