Test & Measurement

Do your products comply with the latest standards?

5 May 2004 Test & Measurement

Safety standards are changing, and it is important to ensure that both new and existing products comply with the very latest requirements. Note that once the last date for production has passed, a product may not meet all the current requirements of the Low Voltage Directive.

In this brief, TÜV International, the service company that documents the safety and quality of new and existing products, systems and services, lists the expiry dates for a number of commonly used standards.

* EN60065 is the standard covering 'Audio, video and similar electronic apparatus - Safety requirements'.

The old standard was EN60065:1993+A11, and its last date for both evaluation and production was 1 August 2002. The standard was replaced by EN60065:1998. The last date for evaluation and production to EN60065:1998 is 1 March 2007, when it too will be superseded by EN60065:2002 (which will apply until further notice).

* EN60950 is the standard entitled 'Information technology equipment - Safety - Part 1: General requirements'.

EN60950:1992+A1+A2+A3+A4 has expired. The last date for evaluation was 1 August 1998, and the last date for production was 1 August 2003. The standard was replaced by EN60950:1992+A1 +A2+A3+A4+A11, which is valid for evaluation and production until 1 January 2005. After this date it will be superseded by EN60950:2000, which will apply to all evaluation and production until 1 July 2006, at which point it will be replaced by EN 60950-1:2001 until further notice.

& EN61010-1 is entitled 'Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use - Part 1: General requirements'.

EN61010-1:1993 was valid for evaluation until 1 July 1995 and for production until 1 April 2001. It was replaced by EN61010-1:1993+A2, which was valid for evaluation and production until 1 January 2004. The standard has now been superseded by EN61010-1:2001, which will remain valid until further notice.
